Request Foods Pretreatment Plant

Request Foods
2021 Pretreatment Plant Expansion
Holland, Michigan

Williams & Works has been providing Request Foods with ongoing engineering services since 2010. This has consisted of pilot studies of wastewater process equipment; predictions of wastewater production; and meetings with company management, plant staff, and township and city officials. In 2021, Request expanded its wastewater pretreatment system, and Williams & Works provided the design and construction engineering.

The project consisted of multiple tasks including expansion of screening, equalization, dissolved air flotation, and metering. A new rotary drum screen was installed in the existing screening building. The pumping station was retrofitted with larger pumps, and the equalization was expanded by constructing a second bolted-steel EQ tank. The EQ contains a jet aeration system which has blowers and pumps housed in an addition to the screening building. Two dissolved air flotation (DAF) units were nstalled in an addition to the treatment building. A chemical storage room was constructed in this addition to house ferric chloride used for treatment. Influent and effluent metering systems were expanded.

The project was a design-build contract that began construction in January 2022 and completed in December 2022. Century A&E provided architectural and MEP design for the project.
