Dorr/Leighton Waste Water Authority
2019 Moline WWTP Expansion
Allegan County, Michigan
Williams & Works provided funding assistance, professional survey, design, and construction engineering for a doubling of the treatment capacity of the Moline WWTP in Leighton Twp, Allegan Co. Century A&E provided architectural and MEP design for the treatment and building upgrades.
The work included improvements to the headworks, secondary treatment, tertiary filtration, and solids handling of the plant. A headworks building was constructed over an existing influent channel to house a new fine screen and vortex grit removal system. Two 300,000 gallon concrete EQ tanks were constructed for the SBR influent and effluent. These tanks were fitted with submersible pumps and blowers. The four existing concrete tanks were retrofitted with new SBR equipment. Two of these tanks were converted from EQ tanks to SBRs in order to double the capacity of the plant. New blowers were installed to provide air to the SBRs. All blowers and pumps were installed with VFDs for operation.
The existing traveling bridge filters were replaced with cloth media disc filters and an indoor UV channel was installed. A solids handling building was constructed to house a new screw press for solids handling. The building also provides storage for generators and other equipment. The electrical and SCADA system in the plant was improved. An expanded power feed was brought into the plant as well as an internet connection. The operators now have remote access to the plant. The design also included interior remodeling of the existing operations building.
