Civil Engineering Field Technician / Construction Inspector

The position involves performing a variety of duties involved with the construction phase of projects under the direction of Williams & Works.  Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Reading and interpreting project plans and specifications.
  • Review of design plans for constructability.
  • Construction inspection of a variety of project elements and types.
  • Report preparation and review.
  • Documentation of field conditions/quantities.
  • Position will require some overtime and travel to construction sites.
  • Follow applicable quality control practices.
  • Coordination with other field personnel. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years’ construction inspection experience involving a variety of civil engineering projects including underground utilities, drainage, roads, and bridges.
  • Familiarity with MDOT Construction Documentation procedures, including proficient use of Field Book. (Familiarity with Field Manager a plus).
  • Current ACI Level I Concrete Certification and completion of MDEQ Storm Water Operator, and Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control training. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Candidate must be able to develop and maintain good relationships with client and team.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma (Civil Technology degree is a plus)

Bridge Design Engineer

Williams & Works has an immediate opportunity for a full time Bridge/Structural Engineer in our Grand Rapids office.

Candidates shall possess a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from an ABET accredited institution (with an emphasis in structural engineering) as well as a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in bridge engineering study, design and construction support/oversight with public agencies, including the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), counties, and municipalities. Experience with AASHTO, FHWA, MDOT bridge design standards and guides is required. Proficiency with Bentley Microstation software is desired. Bridge load rating experience is desired. Familiarity with AASHTOWARE BrR, MDX and Bentley Leap CONSPAN design software are desired. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required as well as a team mindset.

Certified Office Technician

Williams & Works, Inc. is a well-respected Michigan based firm of multi-disciplined engineers, surveyors, and planners that has been serving our clients for decades in the Great Lakes region. We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced Certified Office Technician in our Grand Rapids office.

Candidates shall possess a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in civil transportation construction support/oversight with public agencies, including the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), and /or counties/municipalities. Experience with AASHTO, MDOT roadway and bridge design standards and guides, policies and procedures is preferred. MDOT Field Manager, Certified Office Technician and Materials Acceptance Certification are required. Basic proficiency with Bentley Microstation software is desired.

Project Engineer - Road Design

Williams & Works has an immediate opportunity for an experienced full time Roadway Project Engineer in our Grand Rapids office.

Candidates shall possess a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from an ABET accredited institution as well as a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in civil transportation study, design and construction support/oversight with public agencies, including the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), counties, and municipalities. Business development and client relationship experience are desired.  Experience with AASHTO, FHWA, MDOT roadway and highway design standards, criteria, policies and procedures is required. Training, supervision, and collaboration with design staff are expected. Proficiency with Bentley Microstation and GEOPAK software are required.
